The Northeastern Alberta Aboriginal Business Association (NAABA) announces that Michelle Toner will be stepping down as Executive Director, effective August 8, 2025.
During her tenure, Michelle demonstrated unwavering dedication to advancing Indigenous entrepreneurship. Her leadership helped guide NAABA through a period of significant growth and impact.
Michelle led the launch of the Shared Services Program, supported by $1.178 million in multi-year, multi-government funding, providing essential tools and resources to Indigenous businesses. She also helped amplify Indigenous voices through the Faces of Entrepreneurship video series, in partnership with the Government of Alberta, Suncor, and Fort McMurray Wood Buffalo Economic Development & Tourism.
She expanded NAABA’s signature events, including the NAABA Golf Tournament and Indigenous Business Week. Over five years, the tournament has hosted more than 1,400 golfers and raised over $1.1 million in gross revenue.
Michelle played a key role in the opening of NAABA’s new office and led the development of an Indigenous Procurement Policy with the Regional Municipality, supporting more inclusive economic opportunities. Her advocacy at both municipal and provincial levels helped elevate the profile of Indigenous businesses and strengthened NAABA’s partnerships.
